About the KAREN Architecture Working Group

The KAREN Architecture Working Group is one of two current working groups facilitated by REANNZ. Comprising representatives from academia, science and information technology from across our membership, the KAREN Working Groups will ensure an agreed, community-owned way forward on the development of shared services on KAREN and for the evolution of KAREN's architecture.

Objectives of the KAREN Architecture Working Group

The objectives of this group (as currently scoped) are to:

  • contribute to, and review, the proposed network architecture for KAREN version 2 and beyond
  • confirm the fitness for purpose of the proposed architectures prior to procurement commencing
  • review and confirm any potential network architecture updates and changes as required
  • help communicate the benefits for R&E of the proposed architectures and approaches
  • provide any ad-hoc technical advice as requested

The working group is yet to come together formally and decide the way it will work together. It is likely that REANNZ will prepare the base material, which group members will review and provide comment on. They may also choose to provide input material if they have it available.

In this way, REANNZ is hoping the demands on Working Group member’s time won't be too severe, but that they will be able to provide a good level of input, and get a real sense that the network being developed will be a real winner for our members.

Our expectation is that REANNZ will do the documenting and publishing side of things, again to keep the load on Working Group members as low as practical.
