Each university and crown research institute member of KAREN has a dedicated KAREN Champion to advocate for and drive the use of KAREN-enabled tools, services and techniques within their organisation.
The KAREN Champions project was a part of the Institutional Component of the Capability Fund (ICBF) Project. Through the ICBF REANNZ allocated $50,000 to each CRI and University member of KAREN in 2008-09 to enable them to determine the best way to grow value from their membership of KAREN.
Following the completion of the KAREN Champions programme, REANNZ held interviews with the Champions to gather feedback and assess the success of the programme. The Executive Summary recommends that REANNZ continues to the support the role because of what the KAREN Champions have achieved to date and the low level of direct financial cost to REANNZ. This report has been shared with the Champions and other community members.
