What is KAREN?

KAREN (KIWI ADVANCED RESEARCH AND EDUCATION NETWORK) is a data network providing high capacity, ultra high speed connections between New Zealand's universities, polytechnics, Crown research institutes, schools, libraries, museums and archives, and out to the rest of the world.

  • KAREN is dedicated to enabling faster, better and different education, research and innovation in New Zealand.
  • KAREN consists of a dedicated, high performance national backbone network connecting 16 Points of Presence, or PoPs throughout New Zealand.
  • KAREN can carry huge amounts of data 10 gigabits a second, 200,000 times faster than dial-up internet and 10,000 times faster than a standard broadband connection.

What is the KAREN wiki?

The KAREN wiki is a collaborative space where members of the KAREN community and interested parties can share ideas and resources that help them to make the most of their access to KAREN. Make your contribution!

  • Share knowledge and make suggestions on KAREN and eResearch related services, applications projects and strategies.
  • Contribute to existing topics or create a new one.
  • Build KAREN communities of interest.
  • Facilitate collaboration across disciplines and distance.
  • Build, share and disseminate information and knowledge about advanced technologies and other relevant topics.
  • Provide a central/independent hub for information.

  2. receive acceptance e-mail and password confirmation
